Parish Council signs major contract for improved facilities at Bampton Recreation Ground
The Parish Council recently signed a major contract to rebuild the MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area), install a Padel tennis court, and refurbish the existing tennis courts—including the addition of modern lighting. Work will begin in the New Year and is expected to be completed by the end of March. Alongside this, a separate project to double the size of the skate park will take place over the same period.
The contractors will start on site on January 5th and both the tennis courts and the current MUGA will close. The pavilion and playing fields will be open as usual, but car parking will be restricted as a section will be needed for the contractor’s vehicles.
These upgrades represent the most substantial improvements to the Recreation Ground since it opened 32 years ago. The new facilities will be equipped with modern floodlighting, allowing use until 10:00pm. An online booking system will enable residents to book Padel and tennis sessions, while the skate park will double in size, and include enhanced features.
The Parish Council first committed to these improvements in 2022, and since then the Recreation Ground Development Committee has worked hard to meet planning requirements and secure the funding necessary to deliver the project.
The main construction contract has been awarded to S&C Slatter Co. of Newbury, while the expanded skate park will be built by Bendcrete, a national specialist which started life in Clanfield and built the existing skate park.
